Crazy Horse Monument And Crazy Sturgis Motorcycle Rally – Get Double Your Money’s Worth!

Now somewhere in the Black Mountain hills of Dakota there lived a young boy named Rocky Raccoon.

Well, maybe Rocky Raccoon lived in South Dakota at one time and maybe he didn’t. But there’s one thing that we know for sure; Native American Lakota Tribal Chief Crazy Horse, or T‘ašunka Witko as he was called by his tribe, did live in those Black Hills and he left a legacy of honor and bravery that was, and still is, the stuff that legends are made of.

In fact Chief Crazy Horse, perhaps most famous for his role in Custer’s  Last Stand or the battle of Little Big Horn, is so respected by the people of the United States that a memorial monument of unprecedented proportions is being carved out of solid rock on a mountain side located just 17 miles southwest of Mount Rushmore.

The amazing accomplishment, which is still in progress, also contains the Indian Museum of North America, the Native American Cultural Center, as well as a 40,000 sq ft Orientation Center and Theater. Native American artists come from around the country to display their artwork and crafts during the busy summer tourist season.

While the Crazy Horse Monument site is a perfect any-time summer vacation destination, if you are planning to visit then you might as well go in August. That way you can not only pay homage to a great warrior but you can take advantage of one of the other great attractions going on in those majestic Black Hills.

I’m talking about the 60-year-old Sturgis Motorcycle Rally which is held every August in Sturgis, South Dakota, just a short 67 miles from the Crazy Horse Monument.

This annual gathering of bikers, families and friends is a 6-day continuous festival of  motorcycles, fun, food and libations which is always held the first week after the first full weekend in August.

Anyone who owns a bike, whether they are a die-hard Harley Hogger or a weekend rider sporting a Yamaha, is welcome to partake in the festivities.

Most people who attend the Sturgis Bike Rally opt to stay at any of the nearby campgrounds which offer everything from a place to stake out your tent to complete cabins and cottages that will sleep your entire clan. Some of the campgrounds also have RV hookups and there are always plenty of clean restrooms and hot showers.

And while all of the official festivities and events, like the race, performance exhibitions and the bike shows, take place at the official Sturgis Motorcycle Rally location, there’s plenty of parties and unofficial happenings at all of the Sturgis campgrounds as well.

If you’re looking for 6 days of solid fun and camaraderie with bikers from around the country and around the world, you won’t find a better place to go than the Crazy Horse Memorial and the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Family-friendly good times are guaranteed for all who attend.
